Sean M. Coughlin and Steven M. Mills Join Lathrop & Gage as Of Counsel
BOSTON (August 9, 2011) – Lathrop & Gage has announced that Sean M. Coughlin and Steven M. Mills have joined the firm as of counsel in the Boston office. Coughlin and Mills will concentrate their practices in intellectual property.
Coughlin brings a wealth of knowledge in patent prosecution, including experience in the areas of biotechnology, small molecule chemistry and medical devices. He has been involved in domestic and international patent prosecution matters, due diligence, opposition, and opinion work.
Coughlin received a bachelor of science with honors in biochemistry from Brown University, followed by a master of arts in biochemistry from Boston University’s School of Medicine. He attended Suffolk University Law School and received his juris doctorate from the Georgetown University Law Center. Coughlin is published in the American Journal of Physiology and was awarded the National Institutes of Health Obesity Training Grant while attending Brown University.
Mills’ extensive experience in the intellectual property field includes matters involving a wide range of foreign and domestic patent prosecution, patent validity, trademark, infringement and licensing, corporate transactions, and opposition and litigation proceedings. He concentrates his practice in technical areas including the electrical, optical, computer, mechanical and physical arts. He previously served as a design engineer for RCA Corporation in Burlington, Mass. and Raytheon Company in Lexington, Mass.
Mills earned a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and also received his bachelor of arts in liberal arts from Stonehill College. He earned his juris doctorate from Suffolk University Law School. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Boston Patent Law Association, and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
