7/1/2008

Jessica Merrigan (Environmental - Crown Center) presented "Industrial Stormwater Compliance and Enforcement" to the 2008 Annual Conference of the Missouri Waste Control Coalition at the Lodge of the Four Seasons, Lake of the Ozarks recently. Ms. Merrigan provided an overview of recent enforcement trends in storm water control, along with key elements for complying with industrial storm water requirements and ways that a company can coordinate storm water compliance with other spill control requirements.

In March, Ms. Merrigan also delivered a presentation to the Associated Industries of Missouri 2008 Midwest Region Environmental Conference, held in Kansas City, Missouri. She participated in the Environmental Risk Management panel presenting a talk on the benefits of facility compliance audits and effectively using federal and state audit privileges.

Ms. Merrigan has represented clients in administrative negotiations with both the Environmental Protection Agency and state agencies, advising clients regarding their regulatory requirements and assisting in litigation of environmental claims, including contribution claims under the federal Superfund law. She has also assisted a utility in defending an administrative challenge to a Clean Air Act construction permit. She works with federal environmental laws and regulations, including storm water management and planning under the Clean Water Act, reporting requirements of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA or Superfund) and the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA) and statutory and regulatory requirements of the Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA).
