Intellectual Property, Biotech Attorney Joins Lathrop Gage in Boston

Boston (April 15, 2019) – Lathrop Gage is pleased to welcome W. John Keyes, Ph.D., as Of Counsel in the firm’s Boston office. Keyes joins the Intellectual Property Transactions team and focuses his practice in the Biotechnology & Life Sciences industry, particularly adept when it comes to matters of Chemistry. Keyes has more than 15 years’ experience working on intellectual property and business issues, including patent portfolio management and post-grant proceedings. He centers his practice on the acquisition and defense of patent rights, and has extensive research experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical, biological, diagnostic and material science arts. Keyes is also proficient in counseling a wide array of clients and has experience in contentious patent procedure, as well as preparing and prosecuting U.S and foreign patents and appeals to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Previously, Keyes practiced with a Boston-based boutique intellectual property firm, where he would prepare and prosecute patent applications, render opinions of counsel and offer litigation support for clients in the pharmaceutical, battery, new material, pollution remediation and software industries. Keyes formerly practiced in Chicago and has practiced in the intellectual property arena since the commencement of his legal career.

Keyes received his Juris Doctor from John Marshall Law School in Chicago, 2008, while also working full time in his prior career as a patent agent and technical advisor for Dentons, one of the largest law firms in the world. Keyes received his Ph.D. in Chemistry, from the University of Chicago, 2002, and his M.S. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Rome in Italy, 1994.
