Lathrop Gage Adds St. Louis Team Focused on Environmental and Insurance Recovery

11/8/2016

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Nov. 8, 2016) – Lathrop & Gage today boosted its environmental, insurance recovery, and toxic tort practices with the addition of three attorneys in St. Louis. Joining Lathrop Gage from Husch Blackwell are Partners Ron Hobbs and John M. Terry, as well as Of Counsel Jonathan R. Waldron.

“The addition of Ron, Jack and Jonathan enhances our already strong national environmental practice and marks a continuation of our growth locally,” said Bennett Keller, Partner-In-Charge of Lathrop Gage’s St. Louis office. “We now have more than 40 attorneys in St. Louis.”

“Ron, Jack and Jonathan have exceptional experience helping companies navigate the complexities of environmental law and regulation, including investigation, litigation, remediation and insurance recovery,” said Bill Ford, partner and co-leader of Lathrop Gage’s environmental practice. “They bring a creative approach to legal issues and a strong record of outstanding results achieving client goals, which are fundamental to the way we practice law at Lathrop Gage.”

Ron Hobbs has an extensive background in environmental insurance law and has won significant judgments against insurance companies for their failure to defend clients that have been sued for environmental contamination. He also prosecutes and defends hazardous-substance lawsuits that fall under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), known as Superfund, and has extensive toxic tort experience.

John (Jack) M. Terry works with chemical manufacturers, oil and gas companies, construction companies and others litigating insurance and other contract disputes, environmental claims and enforcement defense, as well as toxic tort exposure claims. He also helps them manage legacy environmental liabilities under CERCLA and other state and federal laws, often negotiating directly with government agencies to develop strategies to avoid future enforcement.

Jonathan R. Waldron previously served as a Trial Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Environmental Tort Litigation. He has broad experience representing clients in high-profile toxic tort cases and complex environmental matters, including those involving toxic chemicals, heavy metals, and hydrocarbon releases brought under CERCLA; the Resource, Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA); the Oil Pollution Act (OPA); and numerous state environmental statutes.

The additions build upon Lathrop Gage’s strong environmental, insurance recovery, and tort practices.

“We are one of only a few large law firms in the country representing policyholders and we are happy to add this team’s strong background in insurance recovery to our practice,” said Sarah Millin, partner and co-leader of Lathrop Gage’s policyholder and insurance coverage practice.

“This team brings significant experience handling mass tort claims for public and private companies, public agencies and individuals in state and federal courts,” said Mara Cohara, partner and co-leader of Lathrop Gage’s toxic and mass tort practice.
