Andrew J. Ricke

Andrew Ricke focuses his practice on tort and personal injury litigation, specifically representing transportation clients in cases falling under the Federal Employers Liability Act. He also has valuable experience in general tort, personal injury, premise liability, and toxic exposure, along with insurance defense and subrogation cases, and litigating in all phases of disputes from both the plaintiff and defense perspectives. Mr. Ricke partners with clients to provide quality legal advice that is responsive, strategic and efficient.

Prior to joining Lathrop Gage, Mr. Ricke was an associate at a civil defense firm in Kansas City, Missouri focusing on personal injury and insurance defense. In law school, Mr. Ricke was a staff editor for the Kansas Journal of Law & Public Policy and actively participated in the moot court competition and the Dean’s Student Advisory Board. He was a CALI award winner and a recipient of the Payne & Jones Lawyering Award for excellence in legal research and writing.

Some of Mr. Ricke’s representative matters include:

  • Represented a leading railroad company against a workplace injury claim under the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA) by an employee alleging a back injury as a result of their job. The case was settled two days into trial for a fraction of the original request.
  • Obtained complete defense verdict in arbitration proceeding on behalf of automobile dealership sued for breach of contract and consumer protection claims.
  • Successfully represented leading transportation client in defense of various six and seven-figure personal injury and employee claims, including complex musculoskeletal, repetitive stress and cumulative trauma injuries.
  • Representing healthcare and medical practice clients in pursuit of breach of contract claims and related shareholder litigation.
  • Assisting a firm client in redeeming and regaining title to residential real estate property that was wrongfully issued to a real estate broker. The case centered around an unprecedented legal issue under Kansas law, and after significant motion briefing and oral arguments, the Court found in our favor, returning the home to our client.
  • Represent one of the nation’s largest Class I railroads in defense of toxic exposure lawsuits, including management and defense of a high volume of claims alleging asbestos, silica and/or diesel exhaust exposure.
  • Successfully represented leading transportation client in defense of various six and seven-figure personal injury and employee claims, including complex musculoskeletal, repetitive stress and cumulative trauma injuries.
  • Represent corporate and business clients in business and commercial-related litigation, such as breach of contract, consumer protection and property damage claims.
  • Representing healthcare and medical practice clients in pursuit of breach of contract claims and related shareholder litigation.
  • Represent business and individuals in real estate litigation, including disputes related to landlord rights, foreclosures, and evictions.
  • Assisted client in redeeming and regaining title to residential real estate property wrongfully issued to a real estate broker.  The case centered around an unprecedented legal issue under Kansas law, and after significant motion briefing and oral arguments, the Court found in our favor, returning the home to our client.
  • Representing corporate client in defense of water-related trespass and nuisance claims arising from construction and maintenance performed on agricultural property owned by our client.
