Extreme Makeover Hospital Edition – a Surprise Visit from the Regulators
This Health Care web-based seminar addressed how health care providers should respond when learning of potential problems, whether by contact from a government investigator or auditor, or through operation of a compliance program.  Presenters will address new changes to requirements for compliance programs and the impact of those changes for officers and board members when problems occur.  Some of the specific topics addressed:
  • How to organize your response to the problem, whether learned internally or though government inquiry;
  • How and when to conduct internal investigations;
  • How and when to protect the investigation through use of attorney-client or work product privileges;
  • How and when to report issues to the government;
  • What to do about individuals who may have been involved in the matters being examined; and
  • Recent changes in requirements for compliance programs and their importance for management and board members.

Types of investigations or inquiries might include letters from carriers or intermediaries, JCAHO inquiries, contact by investigators from HHS-OIG, or grand jury or AID subpoenas from the U. S. Attorney.  Please click here for a link to review the presentation until 7/13/05.
