Thomas D. Leland
Mr. Leland evenly splits his practice between complex commercial litigation and employment litigation. He has first chaired multiple jury and non-jury trials, hearings and administrative proceedings, and is experienced in all phases of the litigation process. His commercial litigation experience includes handling matters in the insurance, energy, construction, telecommunications, computer software, and real estate industries. His employment litigation experience includes matters involving the theft of trade secrets, breach of non-competition agreements, age, race, and gender discrimination claims, and wage disputes. Mr. Leland has also represented clients in appeals before the Colorado Supreme Court, the Colorado Court of Appeals, and the Tenth, Federal, and D.C. Circuit Courts of Appeals.
Mr. Leland has also represented several colleges and universities in both litigation and Department of Education investigations, including employment, failure-to-admit, and denial-of-tenure cases.
In every representation, Mr. Leland’s first priority is to understand his clients’ goals and then to devise an appropriate, cost-effective litigation strategy to achieve those goals. He is a creative, aggressive litigator who vigorously represents his clients’ interests, whether their goal is a quick resolution of a dispute or to prevail at trial or on appeal. He has authored several articles on employment law and is a frequent speaker on employment and business litigation topics. Before relocating to Colorado in 2004, Mr. Leland practiced in a large national firm in Washington, D.C.
