Kamlet Reichert Attorneys to Join Lathrop Gage

Combination to Create 37-Attorney Denver Presence, Expand Service Offerings

DENVER and KANSAS CITY, Mo. (September 7, 2010) – Kamlet Reichert, LLP’s attorneys will join Lathrop Gage LLP on Jan. 1, 2011, the two firms announced today.

The Kamlet Reichert team includes name partners and founders Jay Kamlet and Lee Reichert, managing partner Brian Jumps and renowned litigator Stephen Gurr, along with three additional partners, seven associates, seven special counsel and support staff.

Their arrival will more than double the size of Lathrop Gage’s Denver office, which opened in October 2005. In Denver, the combined firm will have 37 attorneys and will be located in the U.S. Bank Tower in downtown Denver where Kamlet Reichert currently occupies space. Taking into account Lathrop Gage’s Boulder office, which is focused on intellectual property, the combined firm will rank among Colorado’s 20 largest law firms.

Complementary Strengths, National Footprint

The addition of the Kamlet Reichert attorneys will create a true full-service firm in Colorado, with strength in business transactions, real estate, oil and gas, litigation and intellectual property.

Kamlet Reichert attorneys bring considerable cachet in business and real estate law. The latest edition of Chambers USA, an attorney review publication, ranks the firm among Colorado’s top practitioners in corporate and mergers and acquisitions work; it is one of just six Colorado-based firms to be recognized. Chambers also lists Lee Reichert among its “Leading Lawyers” in Denver for corporate. The firm is also top-ranked by Best Lawyers in America for venture capital, real estate and corporate attorneys in Denver. Its clients include Molson Coors, First Data Corporation, American Civil Constructors, Centennial Ventures, Qwest and Tomkins plc.

Lathrop Gage’s Denver office, headed by Phill Lorenzo, includes a growing oil and gas practice and a litigation team with significant experience in construction, fire subrogation and IP disputes, which will be complimented by Kamlet Reichert’s experienced litigation team. The nearby Boulder office provides patent prosecution and IP counseling. Clients include State Farm Fire and Casualty Co., Centerre Construction, Alcohol Monitoring Systems Inc. and Peak Oil and Gas.

“Both of our firms recognized the opportunity that our complementary practices provide, and we realized early on in these discussions that we both have entrepreneurial cultures and a commitment to our communities’ civic and philanthropic ventures,” said Kamlet Reichert managing partner Brian Jumps. “It’s exciting to enhance our service offerings for clients, but also to join a national platform whose billing rates will be very attractive to the Denver market.”

Headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., Lathrop Gage has a coast-to-coast presence, with offices in California, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, New York, and an affiliate in Washington, D.C. The Kamlet Reichert transaction is the latest in the firm’s aggressive growth strategy; Lathrop Gage opened its Los Angeles and Chicago offices in 2009. In August 2010, Inc. magazine named Lathrop Gage to its Inc. 5000 list, which ranks the country’s fastest-growing private U.S. companies by growth of revenue over a three-year period.

Expanding the firm’s corporate practice – one of Lathrop Gage’s traditional strengths – has been a recent focus for CEO Joel Voran, who recruited securities and finance attorneys to the firm’s Chicago office from Kirkland & Ellis and Schuyler Roche. In July, the firm served as legal adviser to Silpada Designs, Inc. in its $650 million sale to Avon Products, Inc.

“It’s exciting to add the sophisticated corporate and real estate acumen that Kamlet Reichert attorneys provide, not only in Denver, but for our clients nationwide,” Voran said. “This addition of talent in Colorado makes our business law team one of the most dynamic west of the Mississippi.”
