Laurel Stevenson Serves as Volunteer Facilitator in Missouri Bar's Complaint Resolution Program

As part of her ongoing service to the profession, Lathrop Gage attorney Laurel Stevenson (Business Litigation - Springfield) recently attended a Missouri Bar training session at the Lake of the Ozarks, dedicated to volunteer facilitators in The Missouri Bar’s Complaint Resolution Program. At the session, the volunteers received training in mediation and problem solving skills.

Participants in this program will use these skills to resolve consumer complaints about lawyers that do not require a formal disciplinary proceeding but which do affect the quality of the services clients receive. Clients who believe they have not received professional treatment from their attorneys can file complaints with the Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel, which is charged by the Supreme Court of Missouri with investigating lawyers who may have violated the Rules of Professional Conduct. The program is provided as a public service at no cost to clients or lawyers.

Having offered many hours of service to both pro bono clients and to the legal profession throughout her career, Ms. Stevenson has practiced in Missouri since 1997. She has defended cases in more than ten counties. Prior to practicing in Missouri, she was in-house counsel for AEGON Corporation and Capital Indemnity Corporation where she was responsible for handling coverage matters and managing litigation in several states involving ERISA, dram shop actions, bad faith, professional liability and coverage. She has obtained two of the top defense verdicts in a given year in Missouri, including a case of first impression where the plaintiff sought more than $30 million in damages. She has successfully defended more than 50 jury trials and numerous bench trials.
