Eric Schmitt Receives St. Louis RCGA Lewis & Clark Statesman Award

Lathrop & Gage attorney Eric S. Schmitt has been chosen a 2010 recipient of the Lewis & Clark Statesman Award by the St. Louis Regional Chamber & Growth Association (RCGA). He will be presented with the award on August 23 at the annual Statesman Reception at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown St. Louis.
Mr. Schmitt will be awarded the 2010 Lewis & Clark Statesman Award for his legislative efforts to improve business climates and create new economic development in the St. Louis area. RCGA presents the annual award to lawmakers who have demonstrated strong leadership on behalf of the St. Louis region.
Mr. Schmitt serves on the Senate Committee on Jobs, Economic Development and Local Government and the Job Creation 2020 Committee. He has been a strong supporter of programs designed to spur the economy and encourage job growth throughout Missouri and specifically in the St. Louis area. He also worked to advance measures during the 2010 legislative session that would cut state costs and make state government more efficient, and has advocated for taxpayers and has promised to fight any job-killing tax increases on state residents.
“This year was certainly a challenging one, as budget shortfalls forced us to make tough decisions to keep Missouri spending within its means,” he said upon hearing of his latest award for public service. “Now more than ever, it is important to focus on ways to foster job creation and spur the economy. I appreciate this recognition by RCGA, and I will continue to advocate for these important issues.”
Based in the firm's Clayton office, Mr. Schmitt's legal practice is focused on real estate and litigation matters. He is a graduate of St. Louis University School of Law and has litigated dozens of land use cases as well as a myriad of other matters from general real estate and business disputes to administrative appeals and condemnation cases in federal and state court. Mr. Schmitt also represents several national and local businesses as a trusted advisor and attorney.
Mr. Schmitt represents the 15th Senate District in St. Louis County. He was elected in 2008 and serves on the Jobs, Economic Development and Local Government standing committee and the Health, Mental Health, Seniors and Families (Vice Chairman) standing committee. He was also selected to serve on two 2020 Committees – Job Creation and Healthy Missourians (which he chairs) – chartered to map out Missouri’s long term vision in these two critical areas of public policy.
