Multi-Day Cycling Race Raises Funds for Operation Breakthrough

This weekend marks the annual Tour of Kansas City bicycle racing series that will take place in the metropolitan area. Lathrop & Gage attorney Brett Coppage has served on the committee that has organized a series of high-profile professional/amateur bicycle races. This year's races will take place June 25-27, 2010, in Lee's Summit and Kansas City, Mo. Funds go to Operation Breakthrough, which helps children who are living in poverty develop to their fullest potential by providing them a safe and educational environment. Each year the criterium and circuit races bring in approximately $30,000 to the nonprofit organization.

Friday evening's race starts at 5:30 p.m. next to Longview Community College, with Saturday’s race taking place at the Cliff Drive scenic byway. Top pro/am racers from the region will also compete at the Sunday events take place in downtown Kansas City, Mo., just to the west of the Kansas City Power & Light District, from 8 a.m. onward. 

In addition to his civic leadership activities, Mr. Coppage is a competitive cyclist. A graduate of the UMKC School of Law, he focuses his legal practice on representing clients in litigated and non-litigated business-to-business disputes such as breach of contract matters, loan enforcement actions, construction matters, insurance disputes, regulatory matters, business torts and professional liability matters. He served as law clerk to the Honorable Jay A. Daugherty, 16th Circuit of Missouri from 2007 to 2008. His prior experience includes working as an intern for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Missouri and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Agricultural Division.
