Victory in Wyers v. Master Lock Ranks No. 5 in Colorado Jury Verdicts
The successful trial work of Lathrop & Gage attorney Aaron Bradford (Intellectual Property - Denver) that resulted in victory in Wyers v. Master Lock was listed as the fifth largest jury verdict in Colorado for 2009, as published in the May 17, 2010, edition of Law Week Colorado. This verdict was also the largest IP award of the year in Colorado.
Law Week summed it up by saying in the opening paragraph, "If David defeated Goliath in a patent case, David's name would be Phillip Wyers. In March 2009, a nine-person federal jury awarded Wyers Products Group with $5.4 million in a patent infringement lawsuit against the Master Lock Co., one of the world's largest lock manufacturers."
Each year Law Week Colorado takes a look at the most influential decisions in the state. According to the publication, if the jury verdict had gone the other way, "a local entrepreneur's lock design would have been swallowed by a corporate giant."
A graduate of the University of Denver, Mr. Bradford is a civil trial attorney with experience as lead counsel in trials involving intellectual property and complex torts. He has handled hundreds of civil matters to successful conclusion, either by jury verdict, court-ordered dismissal, voluntary dismissal or appropriate settlement, all to the satisfaction of the client. He was selected as the Denver Bar Association's Young Lawyer of the Year in 2008.
