Randell Wallace Represents SBDC in National Economic Development Conference
Lathrop Gage Partner Randell Wallace (Springfield - Corporate & General Business /Real Estate) represented the Springfield Business Development Corporation (SBDC) at the Area Development Consultants Forum, "Optimizing Success: What Your Board Needs to Know” in Chicago April 15-16. He attended along with Greg Williams, CEO of the SBDC; Mr. Wallace is president of the SBDC board for 2009, and is also Treasurer and board member of the Missouri Partnership, the state's organization dedicated to economic development and business attraction.
The forum engaged attendees in conversations about best practices for economic developers. Topics of breakout sessions and panel discussions included an assessment of the realities of today's real estate market, industry retention, transportation infrastructure issues, competitive analysis, and industry attraction strategies. Featured speakers at the conference included consultants who have aided companies in their efforts to relocate or open new operations in new markets, including Abbott Laboratories, Allstate, Best Buy, Cisco Systems, FedEx, GE Aviation, Genentech, Nestle, Nike, Philip Morris, Volkswagen, and others.
"It was a great experience to be able to exchange ideas and learn from others who are so dedicated to the mission of bringing new business to their own regions," said Mr. Wallace, who counsels clients on a wide spectrum of corporate and general business issues. "Greg and I were able to explore in-depth some of these concepts and strategies that would have an enormous impact on southwest Missouri. We both walked away feeling that we'd made the most of the experience and we look forward to the ongoing dialogue associated with these innovations in the field of economic development."
The conference was administered by Area Development magazine. The organizers regularly send follow-up communications to attendees to continue the work that was begun at the two-day conference, and to encourage the further sharing of ideas and strategies. The Consultants Forum series draws individuals vested in the latest strategies for economic development from leaders from business communities throughout the United States.
