Firm Continues Collaboration with Springfield Business Development Corporation in 2010

Lathrop Gage attorneys Joe Johnson (Intellectual Property - Springfield) and Randell Wallace (Corporate & General Business - Springfield) are featured in the January 2010 newsletter for the Springfield Business Development Corporation (SBDC) as board members of the organization. Mr. Johnson is introduced in the electronic newsletter as a new board member with the organization, having been inducted on January 1. Mr. Wallace was quoted in a profile on the addition of 80 jobs to the Springfield area by manufacturer Buckhorn, Inc.

"Springfield competed with multiple locations outside the state for the expansion project, which will result in $6.5 million in capital investment," the SBDC reports. “'The fact that our community secured the project says a lot about the economic environment of the Springfield area,' says Randell Wallace, 2009 president of the board of SBDC. 'It shows that the Springfield area is a smart location for doing business. These are the kind of expansions that demonstrate that our community is experiencing economic growth.'”

Springfield Business Development Corporation is the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce's economic development subsidiary. It provides a continuing revenue source to support the Chamber’s economic development program, which provides assistance to existing business and industry and attracts new business and industry to the Springfield area.

Mr. Wallace practices in mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, securities, and economic development incentives. He has represented purchasers and sellers in merger and acquisition transactions in the technology, food and agribusiness, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing industries. He has also represented technology, security and financial companies in private placements of securities. He also counsels local, regional and national developers and lenders in real estate acquisition and divestiture, planning and zoning matters, economic development and redevelopment incentives, lending transactions, foreclosure, bankruptcy and workouts, leasing, and condominium formation and operation. He has additionally served as Chairman of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, President of the Springfield Business Development Corporation, Chairman of the Greene County Planning & Zoning Board, and President of Leadership Springfield. Mr. Wallace led the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce’s first trade mission to China.

Mr. Johnson's term as a board member will run through December 31, 2012. A graduate of the University of Tulsa College of Law and Drury College, Mr. Johnson's background includes prosecution and litigation of intellectual property matters, general business consultation and litigation including class action defense. He assists established and start up companies in the identification and protection of inventions, technology, trade secrets, trademarks and copyrights to enhance company value and competitiveness. Mr. Johnson's representative clients include medical device manufacturers, physician inventors, international manufacturers, automobile dealerships, national sporting goods companies, chemical companies, a telecommunications consulting and engineering firm, a stainless steel fabricating company and several publishers, as well as numerous small businesses and individual inventors.
