Lathrop Gage Promotes Six Attorneys to Partner Status

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Jan. 5, 2009) – Lathrop Gage LLP today announced the promotion of six attorneys to the firm's partnership: Amy Allen, Mara Cohara, Scott Dickenson, Tom Greaves, Phil Johnson, and Catherine Logan. Their change in status is effective as of Jan. 1, 2009.

Amy Allen (Business Litigation - Kansas City) has experience in a wide array of commercial litigation matters, including breach of contract and business tort cases through all phases of state and federal litigation. Ms. Allen has also successfully defended employers in a variety of employment matters including discrimination, harassment, Family Medical Leave Act, wrongful discharge, covenants not to compete, as well as substantial practice before the EEOC, various state human rights and other administrative agencies. She received her J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law.

Mara Cohara (Tort Litigation - Kansas City) focuses her practice on litigation involving personal injury, product liability, premises liability, breach of warranty, nuisance, commercial, sexual tort and toxic tort issues. Ms. Cohara has served as lead counsel on numerous lawsuits, and has significant experience representing defendants both in jury trials and large mediations. Ms. Cohara has particular experience in nuisance defense, complex commercial disputes and the defense of sexual tort lawsuits. In her career, Ms. Cohara has represented clients throughout the United States in both state and federal court with great success. The success Ms. Cohara attains for her clients is attributed to her skill in simplifying complex issues into clear, logical arguments. She advises clients from a wide variety of areas, including hotel, restaurant, manufacturing, agribusiness and religious organizations. She received her J.D. from the University of Missouri - Kansas City.

Scott Dickenson (Business Litigation - St. Louis) has represented clients on a broad range of legal issues including commercial litigation, product liability and toxic tort defense, general tort litigation, and business litigation. In addition to representing large companies, Mr. Dickenson also represents small and regulated businesses and professional groups in disputes with Federal and State Government entities in matters ranging from civil complaints to government enforcement actions. Mr. Dickenson concentrates his practice on complex, document intensive litigation utilizing computer assisted discovery techniques to effectively identify and use supporting documentation to advise clients. He is a J.D. graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center.

Tom Greaves (Corporate & General Business - Kansas City) regularly counsels clients in a wide range of corporate and transactional issues including the formation of business entities, mergers and acquisitions, management, strategic relationships, corporate finance and other fundamental business changes. Mr. Greaves received a Public Law Institute Fellowship with the Appleseed Fund for Justice. Mr. Greaves served an internship with the Honorable Judge F. Ray Price, Supreme Court of Missouri. He also served an internship with the Honorable Judge E. Richard Webber, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Missouri, Eighth Circuit. He received his J.D. from the University of Missouri - Kansas City.

Phil Johnson (Wealth Strategies - Kansas City) concentrates his practice on trust, estate, tax and general business law. Phil's practice involves the preparation of basic estate planning instruments including wills, revocable trusts, durable powers of attorney for financial matters, durable powers of attorney for health care and living wills. He also regularly executes sophisticated estate planning for high net worth individuals including structure and documentation of family limited partnerships, discount planning, gifting programs, generation-skipping tax planning, private annuities, installment sales, grantor retained annuity trusts, qualified personal residence trusts and grantor trusts. A graduate of the Cornell University Law School, he has also counseled clients on succession planning for owners of closely-held businesses, life insurance planning including preparation of irrevocable life insurance trusts, charitable planning and formation of charitable entities, and estate planning with retirement assets.

Catherine Logan (Real Estate - Overland Park) has concentrated her practice in the areas of public law, public finance, real estate and real estate finance and business law. She provides City Attorney services for Kansas cities, and has advised public entities in Kansas and Missouri as special counsel on various issues, including zoning and land use, real estate, and procurement and contract issues. In the area of real estate, Ms. Logan has represented clients in a broad range of real estate transactions including purchase and sale transactions, leases and financings. She has also assisted clients in establishing for profit and not for profit corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships in both Kansas and Missouri, and in asset and stock purchase and sale transactions. Ms. Logan routinely assists both public and private clients with a broad range of business matters, including procurement and contract drafting and review. She received her J.D. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
