Julie Roth Returns to Lathrop Gage in Kansas City

6/16/2011

KANSAS CITY (June 16, 2011) – Lathrop Gage announced today that Julie Roth has rejoined the firm as of counsel. Roth will concentrate her practice in health care and will be located in the Kansas City office. She had previously been with the firm as an associate from 2008-2010 and returns to one of the most respected teams of health care attorneys in the Midwest. Most recently, Roth served as in-house regional operations counsel for a Catholic health care system.

Roth brings a wealth of knowledge to assist health care industry clients with the negotiation and execution of a variety of physician-hospital arrangements, as well compliance with Stark and Anti-kickback laws, Medicare Conditions of Participation and Joint Commission standards. She is well versed in HIPAA Privacy and Security issues, having served as the HIPAA Privacy Officer for a large academic medical center’s Nursing and Allied Health faculty practice plan.

Additionally, Roth has significant experience with issues related to electronic health records (EHRs) and health information technology and exchange (HIT/HIE). She sat on the legal workgroup that assisted in the development of the Kansas Health Information Technology and Exchange Act, which was signed into law last month. This legislation harmonizes Kansas law with the HIPAA Privacy Rule. Roth’s work with hospitals, health plans, compliance, and privacy issues adds yet another layer to our already strong and experienced health care department.

She has remained active in the health care field, recently providing the Kansas legislative update for the Kansas Bar Association 2011 Health Law Institute. Roth has served in leadership roles in the American and Kansas Health Information Management Association, and is credentialed as a Registered Health Information Administrator. Our clients will benefit from her knowledge and reputation in the industry.

Roth received her juris doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2002, and holds a master’s degree in health services administration from the University of Kansas.
