Lathrop Gage Promotes Six Attorneys to Partner Status

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Dec. 17, 2010) – Lathrop Gage LLP today announced the promotion of Dan Cranshaw, Matt Hubbard, Jessica Merrigan, Joseph Reid, Robert Rooney and Jamison Shipman to partnership in the firm, effective January 1, 2011.

Dan Cranshaw (Tort – Kansas City): Mr. Cranshaw counsels individuals and businesses in litigated and non-litigated disputes such as breach of contract matters, loan enforcement actions, construction matters, insurance disputes, regulatory matters, business torts, professional liability and personal injury. He also handles complex commercial litigation involving premises liability, wrongful death, toxic tort, workers' compensation, contract claims, merchandizing acts and insurance coverage disputes. He was a member of the inaugural class of the “Stakeholder 100,” which recognized the nation’s top 100 associate attorneys of color. He also has been selected as a “Rising Star” by Missouri/Kansas Super Lawyers. Mr. Cranshaw is a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law.

Matt Hubbard (Business Litigation – Kansas City): Mr. Hubbard’s practice is comprised of the litigation of commercial, financial and banking, real estate, and general corporate matters. Mr. Hubbard also advises businesses, financial institutions, and individuals in various pre-litigation and non-litigated matters. Mr. Hubbard has accumulated substantial trial litigation experience in federal and state courts and in arbitrations, and he has successfully tried cases for his business clients to a jury. Mr. Hubbard received his J.D. from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law.

Jessica Merrigan (Environmental – Kansas City): Ms. Merrigan focuses her practice in environmental law. Her experience includes representing clients in administrative negotiations with both the Environmental Protection Agency and state agencies, advising clients regarding their regulatory requirements and assisting in litigation of environmental claims, including contribution claims under the federal Superfund law. Ms. Merrigan has experience in the application and permitting process for solid waste facilities in Missouri, Kansas and Illinois. She has advised regarding the water protection requirements of Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas, including federal, state and local requirements regarding storm water management for various localities in Missouri and Kansas. Ms. Merrigan also works on environmental issues involved in property redevelopment and real estate transactions. She has been recognized as a “Rising Star” by Missouri/Kansas Super Lawyers and is a graduate of the Washington University School of Law.

Joseph Reid (Tort – Springfield): Mr. Reid concentrates his practice on defending clients in business/commercial, personal injury, product liability, medical negligence, wrongful death, insurance bad faith defense, contract, and premises liability matters. Mr. Reid is an experienced litigator, having practiced civil litigation since 1995. Most recently, he successfully defended two medical negligence trials and one premises liability trial and obtained a $2 million verdict in a business dispute. Mr. Reid has represented clients throughout Missouri and Mississippi. He has been recognized as a “Rising Star” by Missouri/Kansas Super Lawyers and was a member of the Springfield Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” honorees in 2009. Mr. Reid graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Law.

Robert Rooney (Tort – Kansas City): Mr. Rooney focuses his practice on the areas of tort, toxic tort, insurance law and business disputes. He has represented clients in litigated and nonlitigated disputes, including environmental and toxic tort lawsuits involving claims of nuisance, strict liability, negligence, trespass and punitive damages; insurance coverage litigation; professional liability/malpractice actions; product liability litigation; breach of contract disputes; trustee litigation; and business torts. Mr. Rooney has extensive litigation experience, primarily in cases alleging serious personal injury and/or catastrophic property loss and has tried a substantial number of cases to verdict. He is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center.

Jamison Shipman (Tax – Kansas City): Mr. Shipman handles all aspects of federal income taxation, including entity formation and dissolution, corporate reorganization, partnership and limited liability company issues, and tax disputes with the IRS. In addition to handling federal income tax matters, Mr. Shipman has experience in dealing with state and local income, sales and use and other taxes. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Shipman worked for two years as a staff accountant for the accounting firm BKD. He has been recognized as a “Rising Star” by Missouri/Kansas Super Lawyers. He received his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law and his LL.M. from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law.
