John A. Glassgow Joins Lathrop & Gage as Partner
Veteran Corporate Attorney is Latest Dynamic Addition to Growing Chicago Office

CHICAGO, Ill. (January 4, 2010) – Lathrop & Gage CEO Joel Voran is pleased to announce that John A. Glassgow has joined the firm’s Chicago office, effective January 1, 2010. Mr. Glassgow has been a transactional partner in the Financing and Secured Transactions group at Kirkland & Ellis. He has represented lenders and borrowers in secured and unsecured financings, many of which have exceeded $1B. These deals have included acquisition and working capital financings, leveraged buyouts and mezzanine financings, term loans, revolving loans and restructurings.

“As Chicago has continued to be a growth market for Lathrop & Gage, we could not have hand-picked a better addition to that office and to our firm’s Corporate division,” said Mr. Voran. “John brings a wealth of experience as a consummate transactional lawyer, and a commitment to public service in Chicago that will be a terrific complement to our team in Chicago, and to the collection of services that we can provide to our clients.”

Mr. Glassgow has orchestrated debtor-in-possession and exit financing deals for many large clients out of Kirkland’s Chicago office, including SIRVA, Inc., the parent company of Allied Van Lines and North American Van Lines, and Portola Packaging, Inc., an Illinois-based plastic closure/container manufacturer. His work for SIRVA, Inc. included a $365 million exit financing, consisting of a $215 million first lien credit facility, and a $150 million second lien term loan facility.

He has represented scores of institutions in the venture capital and financial institutions in the area of acquisition financing. Some of the acquisitions in which he has served as a member of the legal team have included Madison Dearborn Partners in its acquisition of CDW, Inc. and Yankee Candle; Sun Capital Partners in their acquisition of Fazoli’s Restaurants, Inc.; and Biomet, Inc. in connection with its acquisition by The Blackstone Group, Goldman Sachs Capital Partners, L.P., Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. and Texas Pacific Group.

“John has impeccable credentials and invaluable experience on numerous complex commercial deals,” said Blaine Kimrey, Partner in Charge of Lathrop & Gage’s Chicago office. “He is both an entrepreneur and a nose-to-the-grindstone tactician. John understands business realities and knows when to press a point and when to relent in the best interests of his clients. He is a first-rate addition to our Chicago office.”

A 1998 graduate of Northwestern University School of Law where he was Associate Editor of the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, Mr. Glassgow was previously State Director from 1998-1999 and Deputy Campaign Manager in 1998 under United States Senator Peter G. Fitzgerald. He received his M.P.A. from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. He earned his bachelor’s degree, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Notre Dame in government and international relations in 1992.

Mr. Glassgow is co-chairman of the school board at St. Ann's Catholic Elementary School in Chicago’s Pilsen Neighborhood, and a member of the board of directors of WINGS - Women In Need Growing Stronger. He is also a member of the board development committee of Chicago’s Big Shoulders Fund, which provides support to the Catholic schools in the neediest areas of inner-city Chicago.
