John T. Coghlan

Experience
Mr. Coghlan has been appointed Chair of the Bankruptcy/Creditors' Rights Practice.

Mr. Coghlan's prior experience includes serving as Vice President and Underwriting Counsel for Stewart Title Guaranty Company.  Mr. Coghlan provided underwriting decisions for approximately 90 title insurance agents throughout Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska; maintained compliance with department of insurance regulations in Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska; reviewed and filed new policy and endorsement forms with the various departments of insurance; reviewed case decisions and statutory changes regarding real estate law and other related areas in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and federal law and made underwriting determinations and policies which resulted from such changes, and negotiated policy language with buyers and lenders on commercial transactions.

Prior to his experience at Stewart Title, Mr. Coghlan practiced bankruptcy and real estate law for a private law firm.  His bankruptcy experience included working on various aspects of Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases, including secured creditors, debtors and unsecured creditors' committees representations.  Moreover, he has served as an expert witness in a bankruptcy case involving a sale of properties free and clear of liens.  His real estate experience included multi-state commercial transactions located throughout the country.

Mr. Coghlan's prior experience also includes serving as law clerk for the Honorable Karen See, and serving as an intern for the Honorable Frank Koger, both of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Missouri.
