Curtis A. Vock

Mr. Vock joined Lathrop & Gage in 2000 and is the partner in charge of the Boulder office. His practice involves IP strategy, intellectual property prosecution and litigation, licensing and corporate counseling. His clients range from start-ups to large Fortune 500 companies and universities. Mr. Vock manages a patent prosecution team that files approximately 200 original applications per year in technology areas such as software and business systems, commercial electronics, power systems, optics and imaging devices, sports and industrial sensors, space and reconnaissance platforms, silicon processing, diagnostics and medical devices. Mr. Vock spent ten years as a design and systems engineer within the military industrial complex (Lockheed-Martin, Loral, Honeywell and Hughes Aircraft) and has in-depth design and project experience in space earth observing satellites, tactical weaponry and reconnaissance.

  • Worked closely with dozens of executives, managers, entrepreneurs and boards of directors in connection with IP strategy, infringement, business assessments, opinion work, and financing 
  • Founded numerous mostly successful companies and raised millions in financing; two entities profitably earned more than $10 million for members and shareholders  
  • U.S. IP counsel for numerous business and IP acquisitions valued at more than $10 million, and many more at lesser valuations 
  • Lead licensing attorney for many IP transactions each year  
  • Filed several successful requests for patent reexamination; defended clients against PTO reexaminations  
  • Closely involved in numerous venture capital financings, stock offerings, and private placements  
  • Raised millions of dollars in litigation financing 
  • Routinely assist a leading university in technology licensing and strategic equity investments  
  • Served for over 15 years as high tech patent counsel for universities, hospitals and research institutions
  • Recently formed joint venture with tech transfer offices of select international universities to simplify and strengthen worldwide patent commercialization
