Community Service

Along with our reputation for hard work and high achievement, Lathrop & Gage possesses a deep generosity of spirit and a desire to help and give back — to each other, to our communities, to those less fortunate.

That’s why we are dedicated to being active and responsible members of the communities in which we work and live. Pro bono legal service is a major part of our efforts, as is charitable giving. But there is much more. We actively seek out projects which allow all of our personnel to contribute directly to our communities, putting our work, and our words, into action.

The two attorneys for whom the firm is named, Gardiner Lathrop and John B. Gage, served as United States Commissioner and Kansas City mayor, respectively, and other lawyers of the firm have been members of state and federal legislatures and senates, state governors, federal and state judges, city council members, state university curators and police commissioners. Lathrop & Gage has produced four mayors, four state senators & representatives, one U.S. senator, one U.S. representative, three governors and eight judges.  Our attorneys have assumed prominent roles in the legal community, providing professional and civic leadership as presidents of the Missouri and Kansas state bar associations and local bar associations in both states. Many attorneys are and have been active in local, state and national Democratic and Republican politics.

Still others offer their services and expertise to regional charitable and civic organizations, serving on or chairing the boards of such organizations. Our attorneys serve on or chair the boards of more than 150 local and regional charitable or civic organizations.
